Hi! I'd like to introduce myself...

Hello!

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Nancy. I am a spunky red-headed wife and step mom living in the Kansas City area. I spend my days supervising a small warehouse and my evenings and weekend doing house-wife-y things like cooking and sewing.

I believe:
  • That cooking is an art in itself
  • That store bought cards are too impersonal
  • In doing what you love!
Growing up my mom would make my sister and I these amazing frilly flowery dresses for every holiday. We ended up with at least 4 new dresses a year! She would have us sit down in the fabric store with a book full of beautiful dresses to choose from. Then she had us pick out the fabric and lace we liked. It was fascinating to watch it all come together and we loved showing them off at school and church.

My mom was the inspiration for me to pick up sewing later on in life. Now-a-days I am in the light weight jacket making trade. Let me tell you how I found my niche:

I came across an awesome pair of linen cargo capris in a muted chocolate brown color. But found that they were too small when I got home. Then, staring at the cut one day wishing I could slip them on, I noticed that I could use the pieces to make something else. Something I COULD wear! I could cinch the legs into sleeves and use the butt pockets in the back and the rest would wrap around my shoulders and come together in the front. So I got to work. and the results looked something like this:

Not amazing, but pretty good for the first draft of a concept!

For my next attempt I tried to create something a little more recognizable. I used material from 2 pair of cargo jeans. One in khaki and one in olive. I cut pieces out that resembled pattern pieces and hand stitched them together, since I didn't have a sewing machine yet. It was a lengthy trial and error process, but I finally ended up with this little number:

MUCH BETTER! But not quite there yet..

Each jacket I make gets me closer to a store bought look.

That's all for today, folks!
